GRAND TOUR - THE VENICE AIRPORT MARCO POLO

On the occasion of the 2023 Architecture Biennale and 2024 Art Biennale,  Frank&Frank will be present at the Venice Airport Marco Polo with an installation of 13 linear meters of great visual impact. Starting from ancient travel stories, the project is projected into the future, evoking relationships between the real, the digital and the material.

The installation will be visible in the Airport on the ground floor, from April to November, then participating to the discussion on “future laboratory”, the theme suggested by the Architecture Biennale.

GRAND TOUR, to retrace today, more than two centuries later, the journey made in Italy by cultured and enthusiasts artists like Goethe and Byron, in search of the vestiges of classical civilization in Italian citiesobserved with curiosity and amazement.

An installation that connects the history of a millenary culture and countless beauties of its forms and of the main cities that were part of this route, starting from Venice and the islands of the lagoon, Florence, Rome, to reach Naples with Procida and Capri.

The airport is the place par excellence for travelling, a crossroads of destinations and cultures and, like the maps of Frank&Frank, crossroads of spaces and colors, bearers of emotions.

Frank&Frank make maps of world cities in “vegetable tanned leather” with tannins from natural plants and flowers. Drawing cities is an artistic process of reduction from the image of  the real city to an almost abstract structure: the result is a three-dimensional mosaic obtained with a manual intervention with natural anilines.

An artistic labyrinth where everyday life and art meet.

The creation of these works in organic material is the result of the curiosity and creativity of those who want to investigate the borders and territories in which our geography is oriented, inspired by the ancient maps of explorers.

In the context of the initiatives celebrating its 90 years of activity, Libreria Toletta deeply believed in and supported this project. The oldest bookshop in Venice is actively collaborating on the project, proposing the maps of Venice with enthusiasm in Dorsoduro, its historic location.
